FEDA is the electricity network operator for the Principality of Andorra. It imports, generates and distributes electrical energy across the country while actively supporting the energy transition.
FEDA selected SCLE to digitalize the protection and control system of its 110/20 kV gas-insulated substation (GIS) in Margineda, in compliance with the IEC 61850 standard.
The project leveraged SCLE’s expertise around the ARKENS DCS system, our fully SCLE-designed HV/MV digital substation control solution based on IEC 61850 communications. Our teams managed the entire project lifecycle, including engineering, manufacturing, configuration, factory acceptance testing (FAT), installation and commissioning.
The LV works were carried out by our colleagues from INEO Postes et Centrales.
The success of this project was built on both the reliability of our solutions and the strong commitment of all teams involved.

Challenges
Digitalizing an HV/MV substation within a very tight schedule while dealing with weather constraints related to the site’s altitude.Simplifying maintenance operations and fault diagnosis.Enabling remote management of substation intelligence through a fully digital approach, including administration, configuration and cybersecurity.
Benefits
A high-performance solution that helps make the power grid more reliable and efficient.A modular and versatile hardware platform compliant with the IEC 61850 standard, ensuring the interoperability required by the network operator.
Designed and manufactured in Toulouse, France, the ARKENS product range is certified with the “Origine France Garantie” label.
