RTE R#SPACE: Ploeren pilot station

Delivery of numerical control equipment from the ARKENS SV range

Brief description

RTE’s R#Space project involves the development of a brand-new digital control system that will enable RTE teams to perform maintenance on electrical substations remotely in the future, making their management much easier. Following a 4-year development phase, RTE commissioned R#Space at the end of 2023 on the first substation in Ploeren in southern Brittany, France.

For this strategic project, RTE entrusted SCLE with the supply of the IEDs performing the SCU function. The ARKENS SV range was qualified and integrated into the pilot phase at the Ploeren substation. This range of IEDs is a hardware base designed to protect electronic structures; it enables Sampled Values data to be sent and collected. Beyond the SCU, it can provide all acquisition, protection and control functionalities (PIU, SAMU, SCU, BCU, BPU, etc.) on Process Bus networks.

Challenges

  • Integrate renewable energies or new equipment into the network without having to replace the entire current system
  • Facilitate maintenance and repairs
  • Manage the intelligence of electrical substations remotely thanks to digital technology (administration, configuration, cyber security)

Benefits

  • High-performance equipment that helps make the electricity network robust and efficient
  • A modular, versatile hardware base communicating to IEC 61850 standard to meet the network operator’s need for interoperability
  • Designed and manufactured in Toulouse, the ARKENS SV range is certified ‘Origine France Garantie’

Keys figures

  • 4-year RTE project
  • 10 units deployed at the Ploeren pilot site
  • IEC 61850
